Sharon “Shy” Elizabeth Roop, 73, of Christiansburg, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dustin “Dusty” Roop; parents, Cora Trail Simpkins and Earl Richard Simpkins, Sr.; and brother, Johnny Ray Simpkins.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Larry Roop; daughter and partner, Ayesha Roop and Brian Shook; sisters and brother-in-law, Karen Wills of Draper, Gloria Minnick of Radford, and Patsy and James Bishop of Snowville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Donna Simpkins of Hillsville, Shane and Eileen Simpkins of Draper, Jimmy Lee Simpkins of Radford, Timmy and Rebecca Simpkins of Radford, and Joey and Kris Simpkins of Christiansburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon was an intelligent and hard-working woman with a quiet personality and strong political beliefs. She was an avid reader who loved nothing more than to spend a day reading a good book and taking care of her many plants. She will be missed dearly by her family, but we find solace in knowing she will be reunited with her son forever.

The family received friends Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, followed by a graveside service in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/), Sharon believed strongly in donating to St. Jude to help children with cancer.
