Roop, Hazel Jane Lovern

Hazel Jane Lovern Roop passed away on Nov. 16, 2018, at Highland Ridge Rehab Center. She was born in Cambria, Virginia, on Jan. 9,1927, and was the daughter of Daniel Lloyd and Snowy Akers Lovern.


Mrs. Roop loved her family and friends and enjoyed visiting with them.

She also was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and collecting recipe books, sewing, crocheting, jewelry-making, and other crafts and took great pleasure in sharing her handiwork with others.

She was a member of Christiansburg Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert C. Roop, on Jan. 13, 1994 and by siblings Melvin Lovern, Dewey Lovern, and Lura Estes.

She is survived by sons Hubert C. Roop, Jr. and wife Judy of Luray, and Daniel R. Roop and wife Becky of Lynchburg; grandchildren Jason Roop of Richmond, Elizabeth Roop Tuck and husband Warren of Midlothian, Jeffrey Roop and wife Kristy of St. Charles, Missouri; and great-grandchildren Aubrey Elizabeth and Jonathan Tuck and Sophia Roop. Mrs. Roop is also survived by siblings, Phala Shepherd, Bessie Epperly, Sonnie Lovern,

Ward Lovern and wife Kate, Pat Linkous and husband Marlin, Tony Lovern and wife Sandie, and Linda Linkous and husband Wayne, numerous nieces and nephews, and very special longtime friends, Carolyn Westmoreland and LT Simmons.

Visitation with family will be Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. The service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program, New River Valley Agency of Aging, 141 East Main Street, Suite 500, Pulaski, Virginia 24301. Arrangements with Horne Funeral Home & Crematory.
