Robert, Barry James

Barry James Robert, a resident of Christiansburg, VA and a former resident of Prairieville, LA. passed away on Nov. 12, 2017 at the age of 57. A memorial service will be held today, Nov. 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Methodist of Gonzales, LA. Visitation will be at 10 a.m..


Barry was preceded in death by his mother, Milda Robert; and brother, Mark.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda; son, Victor; daughter, Sarah; father, Curtis Robert; and brothers, Curtis and Michael.

Employed at Virginia Tech as the University Veterinarian, he was previously employed at the Pennington Biomedical Research Institute, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the Kansas University Medical Center, the University of Alabama in Birmingham and Park Animal Hospital in Pinellas Park, FL.

Barry had a BS degree in Microbiology from LSU, a DVM from LSU and a Ph.D from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was also board certified in Laboratory Animal Medicine.

Barry enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing and riding his bike. He loved to train for triathlons and was active at First Methodist in Blacksburg, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or NPR.
