Improvements are coming to the intersection of Route 11 (Lee Highway) and Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road).
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced work was scheduled to begin May 4 and stretch into the summer.
Jen Ward, VDOT Communications Specialist / Salem District said the project will include improving the right and left turn lanes that connect Route 11 and Route 114 along with drainage structure repairs. Drivers should watch message boards and expect changes in traffic patterns as the project moves forward over the next year.
The closures will include the following:
Lane, turn lane and shoulder closures on Route 11 and Route 114 will be in place throughout the duration of the project. Flagging operations may also be in place.
Periodic temporary detours will be in place using Route 600 (Belspring Road) for traffic exiting southbound Route 11 to eastbound Route 114 and using Route 630 (Round House Street) for traffic exiting westbound Route 114 to southbound Route 11 as work progresses.
At the beginning of the project, these lane closures and detours will be in place between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Over the summer, June 1 to July 31, these hours will only be in place for southbound Route 11.
For the month of May, daytime lane closures will be limited to the hours between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and overnight between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Starting in June, construction activity will increase while schools are out for the summer.
The project is expected to be completed by next summer, 2027.
