Carrie McConnell, President of Ridge View Bank, has announced the hiring of Bill Kirchner as Wealth Partner for Ridge View Bank Private Client Solutions, responsible for overseeing the Roanoke, Smith Mountain Lake, and New River Valley markets.
Kirchner brings more than 11 years of experience to Ridge View Bank through various roles at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager and a leading provider of investment, advisory and risk management solutions.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Bill to our Ridge View team,” McConnell said. “Bill’s vast background and knowledge from working in a multitude of positions with BlackRock will serve our clients well in this market. But more importantly, I believe Bill is the right culture fit for our team and community. He has hit the ground running and is going to be a critical piece of our continued growth in the Ridge View footprint.”
At BlackRock, Kirchner started as an investor service specialist, managing mutual fund accounts and forging client relationships. In his most recent position as vice president and market leader, he worked with financial advisors at independent
financial-based institutions to produce portfolios for clientele.
At Ridge View Bank, Kirchner will focus on planning and growing clients’ complete investment and wealth planning needs through personal investment services, trust, estate settlement, and business investment services.
Kirchner grew up in Northern Virginia and graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in finance. He currently resides in Roanoke with his fiancé.
Invasive Species and Restoration Community Day Town of Blacksburg
In partnership with the Invasive Species Collaborative at Virginia Tech and the Virginia Tech Biocultural & Ecological Restoration Initiative, the Town of Blacksburg will host a community day focused on invasive species and restoration, 1- 6:30 p.m.
This interactive event will take place in various locations throughout Heritage Park and Rising Silo Brewery. All workshops and demonstrations are free, but registration is required.
The program will feature several concurrent workshops, including:
Restoration Walk n’ Talk, 1- 2:30 p.m.: Highlighting a new ecological restoration project underway along Toms Creek in Heritage Park.
Water World Workshop, 1-2:30 p.m.: Teaching hands-on sampling and observation techniques that reveal indicators of aquatic ecosystem health.
“Wildlife in Your Backyard” Show #1, 1 – 2 p.m.: Learning about the impact of invasive species on local ecosystems and how native wildlife are key to ecological balance. Featuring several animal ambassadors from the Southwest Virginia (SWVA) Wildlife Center of Roanoke.

These workshops will be followed by an invasive plant removal and management demonstration from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. that will highlight different techniques, including: Big machinery (forest mulching), hand tools, commercially available herbicides, emphasizing how to use these chemicals safely and strategically, and post-removal restoration techniques.
A partner meet-and-greet at Rising Silo Brewery will close out the day’s events to help connect participants with local non-profit organizations, university partners, and state agencies that are doing work to address invasive species and ecological restoration. The meet and greet will conclude at 6:30 p.m., giving participants time to ask questions and learn more about options/resources to help begin tackling invasives and restoring the ecological health of their properties. No registration is required for the meet-and-greet.
