RADFORD — Rachel Arnold of Radford is one of 96 men and women performing 10 months of national service as part of the Atlantic Region’s 21st Class of the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), an AmeriCorps program.
A 2013 graduate of Radford High School, Arnold will work with fellow NCCC members on a variety of projects focusing on disaster response and recovery efforts. She will work with such organizations as the National Guard, American Red Cross and various state agencies.
“I first heard about this program on Facebook and my friend told me how much she enjoyed her round,” Arnold said.
After her 10-month tenure, Arnold will graduate from NCCC in May with an education award of $5,645, which can be used to continue education or pay back student loans.
“What motivates me to serve is the principle that we all need to help out the community,” Arnold said.
Arnold’s parents are Tryphena Wyms and Michael Wyms.
