James Henry Ratcliffe, 71, of Chattanooga, Tenn., formerly of Radford, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. He was born in Radford, Va. on Oct. 24, 1946, the son of the late William C. and Viola Sheppard Ratcliffe.


He was a mechanical engineer retired from TVA and a US Army veteran. He was a lifetime member and past Commander of American Legion Post #95 in Chattanooga, Tenn. as well as being active in the Masons and Shriners.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Christopher James Ratcliffe, and a brother, William C. Ratcliffe III.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Denise and James White of Richmond, Va. and Leah Hope Ratcliffe of Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers and sister-in-law, Jack L. and Sue Ratcliffe of Radford, Va.; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12-1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Memorial and Masonic services will begin at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Neil Wood officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will follow at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery Volunteers, PO Box 11373, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

The Ratcliffe family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, Virginia.
