Auburn High School fell in this past week’s Class 1 semi-finals and finished with only two losses this season.
For her play, first baseman Kayle Ramrattan was named the Mt. Empire District’s player of year. Her Auburn coach, Sean Gaynor, was named coach of the year. Gaynor is in his first year as head coach of the Riner school after leading Christiansburg to a state title two years ago.
Ramrattan was joined on the MED first team by pitcher Skler Hodges, shortstop Johnnie Gaynor and outfielder Ariel Mullins.
Auburn placed five on the second team with sisters Faith and Hope Wilson leading the way along with teammates, second baseman Kaylen Mitcham, third baseman Leah Wimmer and outfielder Addi Early.
Auburn was also well represented on the MED baseball and boys and girls soccer teams.
Brody Hensel was named the baseball player of the year with his coach Eric Altizer as the coach of the year.
Hensel was joined on the first team for baseball by teammates, pitcher Matt Altizer and third baseman Coln Roark.
Auburn’s Alex Young was named to the second team as a pitcher and Canyon Calhoun was the second-team designated hitter.
Sophomore Kaycie Smith was named the girls’ soccer player of the year and was joined on the first team by Auburn teammates, Jillian Tucker, Carloline Fultz, Beverly Warner, Lucy George and Nora Garland.
Auburn’s Alexis Hinds, Marley Thomas, Brookly Mikowicz and Samantha Lewis received second-team honors.
Auburn coach Kris Teaford was named the boys’ soccer coach of the year. Six of his players were named to the MED first team including Jared Bradley, Cole Jones, Ethan Sutphin, Jade Miear, Ethan Rosenbaum and Ethan Beard.
Alex Beard was named second team.
