Darryl Gillespie

Darryl Gillespie steps down after seven years at the helm of the Radford High School girls soccer team. This season ended with a loss in the state finals, and the brainchild of a dominant run by the Lady Cats finishes with an overall mark was 122 and 18.

Looking back, he credits a lot of talent for making his life easier.

“The Radford Lady Bobcats Soccer team had a great season. We lost 4 games. 2 regular season games to Blacksburg and the Regional Finals and State Semi Finals to Appomattox. For his outstanding career and final season, Gillespie is the 2018 All-County/All-City girls soccer coach of the year.

Gillispie said he had put a lot into the soccer program but has gotten much more out of it.

“I will greatly miss the girls. Many quality kids have come through the program during my 14 years as an assistant coach and as head coach.”
