New River Community College has recently hired Lori Mitchell and Alison Weston in the Student Services Division to assist students and enhance their experience at the college.
Mitchell, of Radford, has been hired as the student success coordinator. In this role, she will facilitate programs and services to support student success in students’ transition to college and completion of their program of study. Mitchell is tasked with assisting to increase student retention, helping build community and fully engage students in their time as a student at NRCC. She has more than 20 years of experience in student services at Virginia Tech, Radford University and NRCC that includes work in career services, health professions advising, cooperative education and internship programs, student activities, leadership development, enrollment management and academic advising. Mitchell received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Weston, of Radford, joins NRCC as the enrollment management and transfer services coordinator. She will coordinate recruitment and enrollment efforts for students in the New River Valley, as well as maintain partnerships with four-year colleges and universities and coordinate on-site visits. Weston has previous experience in college admissions and advising from Appalachian College of Pharmacy, Radford University, Piedmont Virginia Community College and Virginia Tech. She received her bachelor’s degree from Radford University and a master’s degree from University of Virginia.
Both Mitchell and Weston are based at the NRCC campus in Dublin and are part of NRCC Student Services staff. The Student Services Division includes admissions, financial aid, enrollment management, advising, student activities, transfer planning, new student orientation, college transition programs and courses, career services and partnerships with community resources to support student success.
