Radford University and Danville Community College (DCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Mar. 17 establishing the Tartan Transfer Program at DCC, a partnership designed to streamline the pathway for students to earn an associate degree at DCC and transfer seamlessly to Radford University to complete a bachelor’s degree.

“Welcoming Danville Community College to Tartan Transfer represents our shared commitment to student success across Southside Virginia,” said Radford University President Bret Danilowicz. “This partnership removes barriers and creates clear pathways for students to thrive – from their first day at DCC through earning in-demand degrees from both institutions – then launching their careers from Radford University. We’re proud to stand with DCC in opening doors for the communities we serve.”

The agreement strengthens collaboration between the two institutions by aligning academic pathways, enhancing advising and simplifying the admissions and enrollment process for students who plan to continue their education beyond the associate degree. DCC becomes the ninth college participating in Tartan Transfer.

“At Danville Community College, our focus is always on opening doors for our students,” said Cornelius Johnson, president of DCC. “Partnerships like this one with Radford University ensure that our graduates have a clear and supported pathway to continue their education and achieve their long-term academic and professional goals.”

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to helping students complete their associate degrees while preparing them to transfer successfully into four-year programs.

“This partnership represents an important step forward in expanding opportunities for our students,” said DeAndre Howard, vice president of academic affairs and student services at DCC. “Through the Tartan Transfer program, Danville Community College students will benefit from clear academic pathways, strong advising support and a streamlined transition to Radford University as they pursue their bachelor’s degrees.”

Under the terms of the agreement, the institutions will work together to provide coordinated advising, clear communication about academic policies and shared outreach and marketing efforts to help students understand and navigate the transfer process.

Through Tartan Transfer, students can begin their academic journey at DCC and transition smoothly to Radford University, with guidance and support from advisors at both institutions. The program is designed to help students maximize transfer credits, maintain academic momentum and complete their degrees efficiently.

The partnership also reflects the institutions’ shared goal of strengthening educational attainment across Southwest and Southside Virginia by making bachelor’s degree pathways more accessible to community college students.
