RADFORD – The City of Radford and the Department of Parks and Recreation are gearing up for this year’s Spirit of America Festival, set for Thursday, July 4, 1 – 10 p.m.  in Bisset Park.

The fan favorite July 4th Dog Show will be making a return to the event line-up, with registration at 1 p.m. and the show at 2 p.m.

“Please make sure you register as soon as you arrive,” the Parks and recreation department announced regarding the dog show. “Due to no parking at the Shelter #1 Parking Lot, dog show parking will be located at the first parking lot to the right on New River Drive behind the old clothing bank. It is a short walk to the dog show area. The show is at 2 p.m.

There will be a first and second place awarded in each of three categories: Most Patriotic Costume (Dog); Most Patriotic Costume (Dog & Owner) and Best Trick on command, as well as other categories. First place prize is a gift card and second place prize is a medal.  All dogs must be on a leash. Please provide water for your dog and pick up after them.

“We hope you will come out and show your Patriotic Spirit and help us celebrate July 4th,” announced Parks and Rec.

The festival also features a line-up of live music, including Cat5 Band, Motown Revue and the Embers. Children’s games are set up from 1 – 8 p.m. There will be tons of vendors, from food and drink to crafts, clothing, jewelry and more. The city will run shuttle buses to the site from 4 – 10 p.m.
