In an abbreviated special meeting on Monday, the Radford School Board approved the renovation of the Radford Bobcat concession stand and restrooms by volunteers, including students as a service project.

Superintendent Robert Graham assured the school board that insurance coverage and volunteer supervision were fine as long as it was approved by the school board.

Keith Weltens, a parent, will be leading the group, which will be helping with painting and other refurbishing of the facilities. Board member Joe Hester applauded the involvement of students and encouraged future projects that would include them.

After an extensive closed session, two students were approved for readmission to school full-time under specific conditions.

The following appointments were approved by the board: Ashley Bailey, paraprofessional at McHarg; Angela M. Caldwell, video production teacher at the high school; John Ferguson, sixth grade teacher at Belle Heth; Savannah McBride, part-time for science engineering art design at McHarg; Brandon Merix, third grade teacher at Belle Heth; and George Saunders, assistant to the band director.

The following coaching appointments were also made: Josh Woods, Cameron Sellers, Roger Hollins, Josh Smith and Wesley Parcell were all hired as assistant football coaches. Taylor Young was appointed as JV cheerleading coach.

The next school board meeting will be Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. It will be the board’s annual retreat session.
