RADFORD – The Radford City Police Department is investigating the death of an infant in Radford.

On February 28, Radford police, along with  Radford City Fire and Rescue, responded to a 911 call in the 600 block of 11th Street at 10:52 a.m. in reference to an infant that was not breathing.

“Upon arrival the infant was transported to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, and was later transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital,” states information released by Acting Police Chief Angie Frye.

“On March 7, Radford City Police was notified that the infant had died,” the release continues. “After the death of the infant, an autopsy was performed by the Western Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office.  The incident remains under investigation by the Radford City Police Department, along with Radford City Department of Social Services.”
