Heavy rains caused flash flooding in Buchanan County on July 12, leaving more than 100 homes damaged or completely destroyed, along with several businesses.
The Radford City Police Department is stepping up to help the victims displaced by the flooding, and is hoping the community will help provide items needed by those affected.
“The Radford City Police Department will be collecting items to deliver to those in need and/or displaced by the flooding in Buchanan County,” the department announced. “Officers went on Thursday (July 14) to deliver an initial care package and to assess the needs of the area. We will be accepting donations of bleach, cleaning supplies of all kinds, buckets, shovels, paper towels, water, brooms, mops, batteries and flashlights. Please consider giving. All donations can be dropped in our PD lobby with plans of us making a return trip to the area with the items on July 25.”
Anyone who would like to contribute can drop off the listed items to the Radford City Police Department headquarters before July 25. The RCPD is located at 20 Robertson St., Radford.
