The Blacksburg Shooting Range in the Eastern Divide Ranger District of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests will be temporarily closed from Mon., July 25, through Mon., Aug. 1, 2022, for maintenance and repair work.

“The shooting range is one of our busiest recreation sites and has accumulated wear and tear over time that needs to be addressed,” said District Ranger Beth Christensen. “Thank you to our community members and groups who are working with us to keep the facility orderly, safe, and pleasant for its users.”

The district is working with local community volunteers to complete several work projects that will improve visitors’ experience at the range. Projects include trash cleanup, grading the range, parking area and access road improvement, treatment of encroaching non-native plant vegetation, placing boulders to secure range perimeters, and resetting and leveling gates at the entrance to the range.

Anyone seeking to volunteer to assist with any of these activities can contact Eastern Divide District Ranger Beth Christensen at 540-552-4641.
