RADFORD – The Radford Public Library is hosting an event centered on Radford’s parks and their importance to the local ecosystem – as well as their wealth of subject matter for art.

“Experience a unique dialogue between art and science as a dendrologist and an artist examine Radford’s dynamic park systems and their profound relationship to the natural environment,” the library announced.

Dr. John Seiler, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Forest Biology at Virginia Tech, will give a presentation on the native forest ecosystem along the New River and “will explore the ecology of the major tree species found there and discuss how the trees and river interact to sustain the health of this vital riparian environment.”

Jan Knipe, Emerita Professor of Art at Hollins University, will exhibit drawings done in the city parks and riverfronts along the New River in Radford and “will discuss the working process of “plein air” drawing and observation.

The project was supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
