RADFORD – A Radford man is being held without bond after he led police on a vehicle chase on Thursday.

Steven M. Parks, 36, of Radford is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail after refusing to stop for a traffic stop and being found with narcotics after police caught up with him.

According to Interim Police Chief Angie Frye, “Radford City Police Officer C.R. Benson attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu in the 500 block of Rock Road in the City of Radford” on Thursday.

“The driver of the vehicle began to elude the officer, and a pursuit was initiated by the officer,” Frye wrote in a statement Thursday. “The pursuit then led onto southbound Interstate 81 at the 105 exit. The offender then exited I-81 travelled on to exit 101 where it exited and proceeded onto Wilderness and Lyon Roads, where the offender crashed his vehicle in a ditch.”

“The offender then attempted to flee on foot, but was captured by the Radford City Police Department and members of the Virginia State Police,” she continued.

There were no injuries in the crash.

Parks has been charged with driving on a suspended license after previously being suspended for a DUI, a misdemeanor, eluding a police officer, a felony, and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, also a felony. He was remanded to the New River Valley Regional Jail on no bond.
