The Virginia Parole Board has granted release of a 66-year-old Radford man convicted in a 1983 murder.
According to a recent report, Carl J. Brooks has served 43 years of a life sentence in the death of Millard Rhoaden, also from Radford.
The parole board said Brooks had successfully participated in correctional and vocational programs.
He was sentenced in a case that included not finding the body of Rhoaden, making it the third case in Virginia with conviction without a body.
Brooks was also convicted of grand larceny and burglary in Montgomery County.
In his murder trial, the judge lowered the charges from capital murder to first-degree murder, citing no body.
