RADFORD – The City of Radford has a new city manager in Todd Meredith, who currently serves as town manager for the Town of Pearisburg.

Radford City Council appointed Meredith as city manager at a special meeting June 5. Meredith will begin his tenure with the city July 21, 2025.

Meredith has served as the town manager of Pearisburg since 2017. Prior to his work in local government he spent a decade as a public school teacher.

“I am honored and most appreciative for Mayor [David] Horton and the city council for this great opportunity,” Meredith said. “I’m excited to begin work with the dedicated members of the council and city staff to serve the residents of this beautiful and vibrant community. I look forward to listening, learning, and working together to build on the city’s many strengths.”

The city released a statement about Meredith’s selection from candidates through Virginia and the U.S.

“We are pleased to announce the selection of Todd Meredith as the new city manager of Radford. Mr. Meredith brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, particularly in the areas of finance, data analysis, and government transparency,” the statement reads. “These qualities, among many others, make him exceptionally well-suited to help guide and enhance our city. As we move forward on a path toward a more secure and sustainable future, we are confident that Mr. Meredith’s leadership will be instrumental in advancing the goals and values of our community. We look forward to working together to continue building a strong, resilient Radford. Radford is excited to welcome Mr. Meredith to the City and thankful for his willingness to serve in this important role.”

The members of the Radford City Council also released a joint statement on the hiring process.

“The Radford City Council is proud to have worked through a comprehensive and competitive hiring process, during which we had the privilege of meeting and considering many highly impressive candidates from across the Commonwealth and the nation,” the statement reads.

While in Pearisburg, Meredith “led initiatives focused on infrastructure improvement, fiscal responsibility, and regional cooperation,” the city announcement said.

He also served as the Board Chair of the Giles County Public Service Authority (PSA), and as a member of the Board of Directors for both the Carilion Giles Community Hospital and Virginia’s First Regional Industrial Facility Authority.

Meredith earned his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Virginia Tech in 2012 and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Administration at Virginia Tech. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Science and a Master of Science in Education from Radford University. In 2023, he completed the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. He has completed Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification through the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, with specialized training in organizational efficiency and performance improvement. Meredith is also an ICMA Credentialed Manager (ICMA-CM) and a member of the Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA).
