Olivia Radford, a senior golfer at Radford High School, will continue her playing career at the University of Lynchburg.  Radford signed her letter of intent this past week in the school’s gymnasium in front of teammates, coaches and family.

“I chose the University of Lynchburg because it felt like the perfect fit both academically and athletically,” said Radford. “It is close to home, which was important to me, and I love the welcoming, tight-knit campus environment. The golf program played a huge role in my decision. I really connected with Coach Michael Veverka and his vision for the team, and I value the supportive environment Lynchburg offers inside and outside the classroom.”

The Lynchburg Hornets refer to the various athletic teams, which represent UL in the NCAA Division III ranks. The school has approximately 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students.

Over the past two years, Radford has lowered her scoring average from the mid-120s to the mid-80s. She has posted multiple rounds of 85 at Great Oaks Country Club and an 87 at Glenrochie Country Club.

She also competed on the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour at courses such as The Greenbrier and The Virginian.

“Since transitioning from softball and playing golf two years, I am excited about how much more I can continue to improve,” she said.

Her goal for the next level is to improve her golf game, lowering her scores and compete at a higher level.

“I am equally committed to academic success by earning strong grades, staying focused on my major and growing as a student-athlete over the next four years.”

Radford plans to major in Communication with a focus on Digital Media Arts and Design.
