Radford Chamber decorating contest lights up the city

Deadline for entries in Radford’s business and residential holiday decorating contest has been extended through this Friday, Dec. 4.

RADFORD – Several businesses and homes in Radford are already vying for the prizes and bragging rights in the Radford Chamber of Commerce’s holiday decorating contest, but there is still time to throw one’s proverbial hat into the ring.

The deadline for entries in downtown Radford’s business windows and resident holiday decorating contest has been extended through this Friday, Dec. 4.

“This competition is a fun way to celebrate the holiday season, create a festive and beautiful downtown, attract visitors, and showcase your business and residence from east to west end,” reads a message from Radford Chamber of Commerce. “Pack up the car, have dinner in Radford and ride around our quaint neighborhoods and business districts to vote for your favorite decorated storefronts, and homes.”

The current business entries in the contest are Ameriprise Financial- Radford; Atlantic Union Bank; Bondurant Realty; Brad’s Barbershop; Community Life Church; Cooke, Lavender, Massey & Co. Accounting; Cooke, Lavender, Massey & Co. P.C; Downey Dog Yoga; Edward Jones Financial- Caroline Gaskins; Eleven West; Long Way Brewing; Nourish Wellness Pathology; NRV Property Management; Price Williams Realty; Radford Animal Hospital; Radford High School Library (decorated by the RHS art students; Rocas; Ryan Pry, P.C Law; Stifel- Radford; and Sweet & Savory Donuts and Bagels.

The current residential entries in the contest are 2 Seventh St., 100 Second St., 106 Fourth St., 109 Kirkwood Dr., 400 Robertson St., 508 Meadow Ridge, 709 Tenth St., 1008 Second St., and 1102 Robertson St.

“Participating businesses are asked to encourage shoppers to explore Radford and enjoy the many festively decorated businesses,” reads the Chamber statement. “The Chamber encourages locals to vote for favorite storefronts and homes via link to the poll on the Chamber website (www.radfordchamber.com), after all entries and photos have been uploaded.

The contest runs through Dec. 22. Voting will begin on December 9. Photos of each entry for home/business will be uploaded to the chamber Facebook account.

The $25 entry fee supports the mission of the chamber.

“As a member- based organization, the chamber is looking to do a few small fundraisers such as this, to help get through the end of the year in lieu of the Annual Gala fundraiser,” according tot he Chamber. “Please consider supporting through a festive opportunity. The first 40 entries will receive a Radford Chamber ornament.”

Business displays:

First place ‘Best Overall Display!’- New River Radio Group Radio Advertising Package ($500 value) and a $50 Taylor Office Supply Gift Certificate

Second place- Quarter page, full color ad in the Radford News Journal ($450 value) and RU Athletics Swag Basket

Third place- One month ad slot at The Dawg House ($100 value), Ball Park Signs/BP Ad Network and Brad’s Barbershop T-Shirt

Resident displays:

First place ‘Best Overall Display!’- Three month gym membership to Anytime Fitness ($200 value) and $50 BT’s Gift Card

Second place-  $75 Gates Flowers & Gifts, Gift Card and Downey Dog Yoga gift package

Third place- Long Way Brewing Swag Basket and Downey Dog Yoga tank top
