Several area track teams dominated their respective regional competition earlier this week. Both the Radford High School boys and girls track teams brought home at 2C regional crown, while the Christiansburg girls were victorious in 3C with the boys’ team finishing second.
Radford dominated the competition outdistancing the Floyd girls 114 to 95 and escaping with a 93 to 90 win over Martinsville in the boy’s division.
In the girl’s final results, Giles was third followed by James River and Nelson County. Floyd was third in the boys with Gretna and James River in tow.
Radford’s Joshua Downing continued his dominance in the 800-meters with a first-place finish, while Miranda McGray picked up a second place in the girls’ 800.
Emma Hastings Crummey added wins in the 1,600 and 3,200. Abby Barnes would finish second in the 3,200 behind her Radford teammate.
Tyashia Gellner would then set the pace in the girls’ 300 hurdles and finish third in the 100-hurdle event. The Radford girls would then add a second in the girls 4X400 relay and first in the 4X800. Gellner also finished second in the long jump and fourth in the triple
Radford’s Mary Brown finished second in the girls’ discus and third in the shot put.
Christiansburg finished with five individual regional winners on the girls’ side of the track. Kendall Lewis and Julia Moschella stole the show as Lewis set a school record in the 100 hurdles, while Moschella was a duel winner n the 400 and 800. Rachel Lloyd also brought home a regional title in the pole vault. The Christiansburg’s 1,000-meter relay team also brought home a regional gold.
Maddie Wright would give the Blue Demons a second place in the 300 hurdles.
Christiansburg’s Ethan Mills would keep the boys’ team in contention with wins in both the 800 and 1,600.
