Dr. Joan Dickinson, Coordinator of the Design Thinking MFA program and Professor of Design, has garnered the 2025 Arnold P. Friedmann Educator of Distinction Award.
The honor is bestowed by the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) and recognizes demonstrated leadership in interior design education, impact on the profession and excellence in teaching.
The process is stringent and Dickinson had no idea she’d been nominated. She says shewas shocked when she received a phone call from last year’s winner, Jill Pable. The award was officially announced at the IDEC annual conference in Chicago on March 19.
“I am so honored, flattered, and stunned to have received this award,” said Dickinson.
“This is a lifetime achievement award that I dedicate to my students whom I have had the privilege of teaching. The student is at the heart of what we do, and I never take it for granted that I am able to work with so many amazing young people.”
