RADFORD – The RADical Change Commission hosted its Second Annual Pride March on Saturday, starting with a speech by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Claire Yost at the Radford Public Library, followed by a walk down Main Street marked by colorful flags, placards, and signs.

Yost, who is a married lesbian, spoke about her family, her journey, and her life in the Army as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, saying the repeal of the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” regulation in the military opened up opportunities for people who previously lost careers when they were “outed.” Yost encouraged members of the LGBTQ+ community to stand up for their rights and for heterosexual allies to help be the voice for their LGBTQ+ friends and family. Following Yost’s remarks, the crowd of about 75 people marched from the library to the Radford Visitor’s Center on West Main Street.
