Pennington, Rebecca Blackburn

Rebecca Blackburn Pennington of Melbourne Beach, Florida departed from her earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father and Lord, on May 12, 2017. She was born on October 10, 1930 to the late Mr. & Mrs. William L. Blackburn of Grover, North Carolina.


Rebecca graduated from Grover High School, attended Gardner-Webb College and later attended New River College. She was a long-time employee of the State of Virginia at Virginia Tech, retiring in December 1993.

In the year of December 1949, she married Miles Grady Pennington. While attending Gardner-Webb College, Rev. Pennington was ordained along with his wife on September 15, 1957. Rebecca’s ministry has been teaching and visitation.

Rev. and Mrs. Pennington moved to Virginia in June 1965. Rev. Pennington pastored North Fork Baptist Church, Ellett, Virginia for 23 years and went to be with the Lord on September 20, 1988.

Rebecca is survived by her son, John Randall (Randy) Pennington and wife, Diane, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, grand-daughter, Meredith Pennington, step-grandson, Art Mandrano of Viera, Florida, grandson, Miles Byron Pennington of Richmond, Virginia and granddaughter, Rebecca Orion Pennington of Riner, Virginia. Her first son, Miles Grady Pennington, Jr., died on September 22, 1998.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19th at 2:00 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church in Ellett, Virginia. Officiating minister will be the Rev. Danny Collins.

There will be no visitation at McCoy Funeral Home as requested by Rebecca. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the Sunrise Memorial Garden at North Fork Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to North Fork Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.
