NEW RIVER VALLEY – The Community Foundation of the New River Valley, the CFNRV, held its largest yet GiveBigNRV Giving Day recently, helping more than 100 nonprofits across the New River Valley raise money and draw attention to the important work they do for the region.

GiveBigNRV organized by the Community Foundation of the New River Valley raised funds and awareness. Local nonprofits like Montgomery Museum of Art & History and Literacy Volunteers of the NRV won superstar awards.

The event exceeded its $300,000 fundraising goal, bringing in $327,581 from more than 2,500 gifts.  In the six years of the program, GiveBigNRV has raised more than $1,000,000 for nonprofits across the region.

In an announcement, the CFNRV expressed its pleasure to award $11,000 in incentive grants designed to encourage active participation during the Giving Day.

Those grants will go to twelve organizations for outstanding promotion of the Giving Day event, the largest number of unique donors by county, 100 percent board participation in giving, and more.

These incentive grants were made possible with generous support from business sponsors, including the 2019 Platinum Sponsor, Plott & French Financial Advisors. Chris French, a Chartered Financial Analyst with the firm, sees GiveBigNRV as an important opportunity to invest in the community.

“We are thrilled to see the Community Foundation exceed their fundraising goal and to see so many in our community come out to support the GiveBigNRV initiative,” French said. “As a local business, Plott & French Financial Advisors was happy to do our part in sponsoring the Incentive Grants so that these worthwhile organizations receive the funds they need to continue the vital work they do in our community.”

Kim Snider, outreach and development manager of Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley shared that winning the Giving Day Video Grant was crucial to meeting their organization’s fundraising goals.

“This year we had the assistance of a very enthusiastic graduate student, Morgan Dean, who was determined that the NRV Habitat was going to have an aggressive and successful GiveBig campaign in 2019,” Snider said. “Included in this plan for success was winning the Giving Day Video Grant.  Our goal was $10,000 dollars in donations. We raised over $9,000 on Give Big and, now, with the Video award, we have surpassed our goal. We are very happy with the outcome.  We feel like Give Big Day was an opportunity to engage community members who are unfamiliar with our mission and make new friends.”

Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley Linda Jilk also found that the comprehensive support provide by CFNRV made a difference in their Giving Day success.

“We are so very grateful to the Community Foundation of the NRV for initiating this community day of giving and for implementing so many effective strategies – from non-profit assistance, guidance, problem-solving and enthusiastic support to GiveBigNRV marketing and incentive prizes – that were a catalyst to our fundraising success,” Jilk said. “We are a small non-profit that can have a big impact thanks to the funds raised through GiveBigNRV!”
