BLACKSBURG – Did you know invasive vines like English Ivy and Bittersweet can strangle, smother and eventually kill trees? The Town of Blacksburg and Sustainable Blacksburg have collaborated to create a volunteer-driven program that gives homeowners the information they need to rescue their trees.
Join Carol Davis, the Town of Blacksburg’s Sustainability Manager, and Ann Raridon, the President of Sustainable Blacksburg, for a volunteer training session on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 4-6 p.m. This training will be held at the Blacksburg Library and will be followed by a hands-on invasive vine removal tutorial and service project on the Huckleberry Trail. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring gloves, hand clippers and loppers if you have them.
Please plan to park on the street or the Kent Square parking garage to save the library parking for regular library patrons. Light snacks and water will be provided. Questions? Contact Carol Davis at sustainability@blacksburg.gov.
