Morgan Esterhuizan, youth librarian at the Radford Public Library, receives a book donation from Dee Frith, Community Wellness and Outreach Specialist for New River Valley Community Services.

RADFORD –  New River Valley Community Services recently donated several books to the Radford Public Library’s children’s area in support of mental health.

“RPL is grateful to New River Valley Community Services (NRVCS) for their generous donation of children’s books to the collection,” the library announced. “In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness month and also with attention to Resilience Week, NRVCS brought several children’s books and chapter books over to the library.”

Dee Frith, Community Wellness and Outreach Specialist for New River Valley Community Services, recently presented the books to Youth Librarian Morgan Esterhuizan.

“Keep your eyes peeled! These titles will soon be in the library catalog.”

Mental Health Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives and to celebrate recovery from mental illness.

This year, the theme is “Back to Basics.” After the last two years of pandemic living, many people are realizing that stress, isolation, and uncertainty have taken a toll on their well-being.
