New River Community College will host an art gallery, “Heavy Metal Apocalypse pARTy,” by Pulaski artist Dave Rupe. The art is on display now and will be on display until December 15 at the Fletcher Gallery in Godbey Hall on NRCC’s campus in Dublin.

An artist talk and reception with Rupe is scheduled for Thursday, October 5 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Fletcher Gallery.

“What is Art? To me all art is communication with the invisible world,” said Rupe. “We are all spiritual beings who have a divine individual experience in physicality. Every machine, building, landfill…it’s all art in my opinion. From Mozart to a child’s crayon drawing, it’s all magic as well. If you ask me, a human’s purpose simply is to live out loud.”

Rupe grew up in Pulaski and graduated from Bridgewater College in 1994, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in studio art. He attended graduate school at Radford University in 1995, and that same year he joined the Army where he served in Bosnia. He has been in numerous solo and group shows in the New River Valley and Virginia since 1994.

Gallery hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays on request (ext. 3646), and Fridays from 10 a.m.- noon. More information is available by contacting Tammy Parks at (540) 674-3600 ext. 4468 or tparks@nr.edu.
