The Sons of Confederate Veterans meet Tuesday

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ray’s Restaurant on Rt. 221, north of Floyd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend this meeting. For further information, please call 216-233-8401 or 239-9864.

Montgomery County Christmas Store fundraiser Sept. 20

The Montgomery County Christmas Store is hosting a fundraiser at Whitebarrel Winery (4025 Childress Road, Christiansburg) to raise money for our annual budget.

Join us on Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 4:30-7 p.m. to enjoy a glass of wine, appetizers and salad.

Tickets can be purchased for $25 at www.whitebarrel.com. The ticket costs are split 50/50 with the MCCS. Invite a friend and come enjoy a fun evening to support the Christmas Store.

Radford restaurants hosting ‘Help for Houston’ starting Monday

September 11th-15th, five local restaurants in Radford will be teaming up for “Help For Houston Week.”

Each day, one of the restaurants will donate a percentage of sales to a relief fund for Houston.

Monday: BT’s

Tuesday: Sal’s.

Wednesday: Pizza House & Pazar

Thursday: Sharkey’s

Upcoming NAACP events

The September General Body meeting of the Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County NAACP will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 500 Stuart St. in Christiansburg.

The CREDO speaker will be Naila Holmes, Office of Human and Civil Rights, Virginia Education Association. The meeting will be from 3:30-5 p.m. All are welcome.

The MRF NAACP 42nd Freedom Fund Banquet will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, 6 p.m. at the Virginia Tech Inn and Conference Center. Our theme is “Meeting the New Challenges,” and our guest speaker is Dr. Menah Pratt-Clarke, Vice President for Strategic Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion, Virginia Tech. We look forward to hearing a powerful message, providing you with a wonderful meal, awarding presentations and networking with one another. Reservations are required. Individual tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite on our Facebook page, or directly from our branch.
