RADFORD  – A New York woman is being held on multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a rental car agent and attempting to steal a car.

According to Radford Public Information Coordinator Jenni Wilder, Radford City police officers responded to the 100 block of Second Street in Radford on Friday, June 12 at 4 p.m. for a citizen’s service call regarding a “stolen vehicle.”

“Officers met with a male complainant and discovered that he is an employee of a

locally based rental car company,” stated Wilder. “He reported that a female had attempted to lease a vehicle after her vehicle had broken down in Radford.“

Abigail C. Klink, 23, of Freedom, New York, rental contract apparently was declined by the leasing company and the rental car company employee gave a ride to Klink.

“It was during this time that Klink assaulted the employee by climbing over the vehicle’s center console, placing it into ‘park,’ and  striking him with a closed fist twice in his head,” said Wilder. “A physical altercation ensued while the victim tried to exit the vehicle and his cellular phone was damaged. He was able to successfully get out of the vehicle while it fled with Klink driving.“

Police officers located Klink at her broken down vehicle’s location where she was arrested for carjacking, (Virginia code section 18.2-58.1), grand larceny of a motor vehicle (§18.2-95), destruction of private property (§ 18.2-137), and assault and battery (§ 18.2-57). She is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond and the stolen vehicle was returned to its owner. The victim was treated by Radford Fire and EMS at the scene.
