DUBLIN – The New River Resource Authority (NRRA) has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) with a Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) award for outstanding environmental performance.
The NRRA is the regional solid waste and recycling authority used by the City of Radford, Pulaski County, Montgomery County and other members.
Joe Levine, executive director of the NRRA, accepted the award from DEQ Director Michael Rolband during the December Virginia Waste Management Board meeting in Richmond. Levine was appointed to serve on Virginia’s Waste Management Board by Governor Youngkin in 2025. His term expires in June 2029.
“It is an honor to serve my community, and I am grateful to be recognized with such a prestigious award,” Levine said.
The VEEP award honors organizations with exceptional environmental records that go beyond regulatory requirements. Under Levine’s leadership, the NRRA has emphasized environmental best practices and implemented innovative sustainability initiatives.
“The NRRA staff continue to be innovative and resourceful while prioritizing environmental best practices at their facility,” said Chair of the NRRA Board, Steve Fijalkowski. “We should all be proud of the excellent work Joe and his team are doing for our community.”
