Nation celebrates Vietnam Veterans Day

I can’t believe it, but I forgot that March 29 was the National Vietnam Veterans Day. It is the same date the last combat troops left Vietnam, and the POW’s came home.

I don’t know how I missed it; blame it on old age and tired genes. No excuses for missing a time that honors the 58,000 members of the military who died in Vietnam for a cause to restrict the spread of Communism.

As a Vietnam veteran myself, 101st Airborne, it was one of the most important times in my life. I will always admire what we did to support freedom and Democracy.

It is not too late; if you see, or know, a Vietnam vet, it never hurts to say a good word.

Thought for the day: comments on No Kings rally column

From my column Last week on “No Kings “I have received several comments concerning the article:

“I agree Trump is abusing his position and we need to find a way to stop him.”

“Forget The King thing, the direction the country is going today is toward dictatorship.”

“Article was good, but next time write about the signs carried in the rally; people are fascinated by the signs.”

“Sounds like others expressed my feelings and frustrations, hope it is widely read’”

“Idolization is what Trump seeks.”

“Trump says we have stopped Iran missiles threat, but they can fire their missiles from the back of a pick-up truck.”

It is nice that people are expressing themselves through rallies, social media or the newspaper. What better way to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday. What a birthday present.
