Winners of the recent Best Places to Work awards gather at a luncheon honoring them for creating positive work environments.

BLACKSBURG – The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce recently recognized successful workplaces at the second annual Best Places to Work luncheon.

The event was held at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center on June 19.

The program, developed in 2017, is a collaboration between the Chamber, New River Valley Society for Human Resources Managers (SHRM) and the Consulting Group at Virginia Tech intended “to recognize Montgomery County organizations that are creating positive work environments,” according to the Chamber of Commerce.

“Recognizing area businesses for their effort and success in creating positive workplaces will promote awareness of the employment growth and opportunity in Montgomery County,” states information released by the MCCC. “By highlighting the selected organizations, the Best Places to Work program will share what is working and will create a learning business community.”

Areas of recognition included leadership development, benefits development, values and culture. Businesses were divided by industry with one organization selected from each category as the Best Place to Work.

The 2019 recipients are:

Hospitality – Residence Inn by Marriott Blacksburg – University

Construction – SAS Builders

Retail Trade – New River Office Supply

Health and Wellness – Relax Blacksburg

Arts and Entertainment – Wine & Design

Government – Town of Blacksburg

Real Estate and Property Management – HHHunt Corporation/Foxridge

Technology – New River Computing

Marketing – Uncork-it

Manufacturing – BAE Systems, OSI

Financial Services – Wells Fargo

Non-Profit – Community Housing Partners

Professional Services – SERVPRO of Montgomery & Pulaski counties

The Pamplin College of Business student consulting group “worked hard to develop the survey, comprised of two questionnaires,”according to the Chamber.

Questionnaires were answered by business leaders and owners, and employees, and then the consulting group created a statistical analysis ranking each business.

“We are excited to see this program continue to grow in future years,” said Montgomery County Chamber Executive Director Sharon Scott.

The 2020 survey will open early next year.

The Chamber thanked individuals and organizations that participated in the program, and the following sponsors: The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, LewisGale Hospital – Montgomery, Automation Creations, Inc. HHHunt Corporation/Foxridge and Virginia Tech.
