A 1988 Oldsmobile belonging to a missing Radford woman was found this morning in Giles County just over an embankment on Route 100 approximately ½ mile north of Route 42. A VDOT worker discovered the vehicle during some road maintenance. The vehicle was approximately 50 feet down a steep embankment and was not visible from the road.
A white female matching the description of Stephany Michelle Akers, also known as Stephany Proffitt, was located deceased inside the vehicle. Positive identification and cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. A small black poodle was located alive in the vehicle and was turned over to the Giles County Sheriff’s Department Animal Control Officer for possible treatment.
The vehicle has extensive front end damage.
At this point there is no foul play suspected. The accident is being investigated by the Virginia State Police.
