William Bennett Calloway

The New River Regional Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence located in the Town of Christiansburg last Thursday.

The warrant was the result of a long-term narcotic investigation involving, William Bennett Calloway, 71, a retired Montgomery County teacher that still works part-time at Christiansburg High School.

Numerous items were seized from the residence, including: four pills wrapped in plastic, a plastic bag filled with plant material, computers, cellphones and two vehicles.

Calloway was arrested for two counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance.

He was held in jail on a $5,000 secure bond. The case is an ongoing investigation. His arraignment date is set for Friday, Oct. 13 in Montgomery County General District Court.

The New River Regional Drug Task Force is comprised of Blacksburg Police Department, Christiansburg Police Department, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia Tech Police Department, and the Virginia State Police. Anyone with any information involving the investigation can contact the NRV Drug Taskforce anonymously at 381-1755.
