McMillion, Martin Bert

Martin Bert McMillion, 85, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017. Born on Sept. 7, 1932, in Renick, West Virginia, Martin was the son of the late Bert Wallace McMillion and Blanche Burr McMillion.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet McMillion Blake.Martin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane McMillion; daughters, Teanna Day and husband Tim, Myra Conner and husband Kirby.

He is survived by grandchildren, Kate Day, Bethany Day, and Mason Conner; sisters, Christine Johnston and husband John, Fay Howard, Sandra Hayes and husband Edward; as well as many nieces and nephews.

After retiring from Virginia Tech as an associate professor, Martin pursued many hobbies including square dancing with the New River Squares, skiing adventures with the Roanoke Ski Club and tending his small Christmas tree farm.

Martin was a member of Christiansburg Presbyterian Church since 1973, shortly after moving to Christiansburg. He is an inspiration to family and friends on a life well-lived.

He was dearly loved and will be truly missed. The family received friends on Nov. 25, 2017 at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. The Funeral Service followed with Dr. Don Makin officiating. Interment was at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Ronceverte, West Virginia.
