MCEAP opens second location

MCEAP has opened a second location in the former Salvation Army site at 760 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. The new location will house The MCEAP Home Store and More.  The MCEAP Thrift Store will remain open at the old location at 308 W. Main St. in Christiansburg.

The new home store location will offer furniture, lamps, lighting, pictures, rugs, tools, plumbing and electrical supplies and components and electronics. As always, these items are available only if they are donated. The charitable organization is looking to expand to building materials as well, as they have had to turn them down in the past because of space limitations.

MCEAP will also be offering computer service and repairs for a fee, thanks to the presence of George, the computer guru.

Since 1975 MCEAP has served Christiansburg and the surrounding area with food, clothing, household goods, furniture and financial assistance for rent/mortgage and utility bills.

The office in the Community Action building at 110 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg is where Montgomery County residents can get whatever emergency assistance they need. MCEAP’s food pantry is located there, so anyone who needs food can go there. Anyone needing clothing or household items can still shop at the MCEAP Thrift Store in its old location on Main Street with a voucher from our office for free.

We had limited space for furniture in that location, so many times the front porch was used as well. The new space on Roanoke Street has solved that problem.

MCEAP is also trying to get a box truck donated. Many times they have furniture for people in need, but often they have no way to pick it up and the organization has no way to deliver it to them.

After 44 years of providing emergency assistance, MCEAP is now going stronger than ever. But they still need community support in the form of donations of clean, gently used clothing, household items and furniture.  Furniture donations are at the discretion of MCEAP and must be clean, free of odor and stains. Come shop at the MCEAP Thrift Store and More and the MCEAP Home Store and More.
