McCoy, Michael Alan, Sr.

Michael Alan McCoy Sr., 78 of Christiansburg, made his journey to heaven on May 19, 2017.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Lafayette (John Henry) and Evelyn Kathleen (Jack) McCoy. Brothers, Wendell McCoy and Roderick McCoy all of Blacksburg.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geneva Joyce McCoy; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Michael Jr. and Sarah McCoy, Terry and Rhonda McCoy, Matthew and Traci McCoy. Eight grandchildren, Michael McCoy III, April Dow and husband Corey, Aaron McCoy, Kaley Kidd and husband Dustin, Dylan McCoy, Grace McCoy, Megan McCoy and Morgan McCoy. Three great grandchildren, Gavin Dow, Bryson Dow and Landon McCoy. As well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends scattered across several states.

Mike served in the US Navy, assigned to the USS Venture (MSO-496) an aggressive class minesweeper. Their assignment was removing mines from the water to assure safe passage of ships.

Mike and his brother Wendell were founders of M&M Tire in Blacksburg opening in 1969, and serving their community for many years. Mike was dedicated to his wife and family.

He loved the holidays when everyone was together; he would sit and just smile at his large family. Through the years he enjoyed fishing, bowling, family gatherings, traveling with his wife in their motorhome and reminiscing about old times.

Mike and Geneva are members of Belmont Christian Church in Christiansburg.

Visitation was Saturday, May 20, 2017 McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 21, 2017 at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Beaver Terry and Jerry Dowdy officiating.

Interment followed at the Walker G. Snyder family cemetery in Blacksburg.
