A new business at First and Main in Blacksburg continues to add to its lineup. McClain’s currently offers dining, bowling and an arcade. Now, it has announced both a comedy club and live music.

Jamie Oliver serves as the president of DROP partners, who took over the location nine months ago. Since then, the group has remodeled the restaurant and made major improvements to the kitchen.

“We wanted to focus first on the menu, and then we turned our attention to the physical aspect of the place,” he said.

In the kitchen, everything is made fresh.

Now, the work has turned to the audio-visual side of the building to enhance visitors’ experience. A part of that, according to Oliver, was to add the comedy club on Wednesday nights. He said it will have a very metropolitan comedy club feel with major comedians from around the country.

The restaurant was originally opened five years ago under previous management and has endured its own questions. The situation with the recent bankruptcy of Frank’s Theaters also left some things in limbo.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen, but now with new ownership with the theatre, we are steamrolling ahead,” Oliver said.

The upcoming comedy lineup at the Blacksburg location includes Malia Sias as seen on Air Nation on Oct. 16, Coleman Green as seen on Comic View on Oct. 23 and Chris Cope as seen on Conan on Oct. 30.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show at 8 p.m. Seating is first-come, first-served. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

In addition to the comedy club, McClain’s is offering live music on Friday and Saturday nights. For more information, call 750-4588.
