Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

Dr. Michael Glenn Mauck, 70, of Wellington, Florida, passed away Dec. 5, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends. Known as “Doc” to everyone that knew him, he was born in Radford, on Mar. 11, 1955. He was the son of the late Glenn Mauck and Betty Mauck Thomas. He was also preceded in death by a stepfather, Herman C. Thomas.

“Doc”, a devoted husband and loving father, could be found most weekends on the golf course or fishing with his two sons. He is survived by his wife, Sherri Mauck and two sons, Christopher Mauck and Matthew Mauck, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by a brother, David W. Mauck and a sister, Debra L. Mauck, both of Radford.

While growing up in Radford, Doc was considered as a standout in sports where he was known to play baseball, basketball, football and run track.

Dr. Mauck was known for his quickness and speed when he played on the ’71-’72 and ’72-’73 Radford State Championship football team. His athletic ability got him inducted into the Radford High School Hall of Fame while his love for football got him a full scholarship to the University of Tennessee, where he started four years as a defensive back for The Volunteers. While at Tennessee, Dr. Mauck was Honorable Mention All S. E. C. Defensive Back and an Academic Hall of Famer with a 4.0 GPA.

Dr. Mauck left Tennessee to continue his education at the Medical College of VA and received his D.D.S. in Dentistry, then transferring to Jackson Memorial School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. Here Dr. Mauck completed his residency in Mascular-Facial Surgery with further training in Laser and Cosmetic surgery. Dr. Mauck fell in love with Florida, the golf courses, the sunny beaches, they were right at his back door. He remained in Florida for the remainder of his life with the family he loved so much. Dr. Mauck’s family and friends will be holding a “Celebration of Life” memorial service for him at a later date.
