Martha Ann Waddell Reed, 89, of Collinsville, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 10, 1929 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late James Foley Waddell and Helen Garman Waddell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Elmer Nelson Reed, Sr. and sister, Mary Joan Zalokar.

Martha is survived by two sons, Elmer Nelson Reed, Jr. of Grandy, NC and Jonathan Gregory Reed and wife, Jeanette of Garden Grove, CA; three daughters, Martha “Marty” Reed Fleenor of Ferrum; Angie Reed Alley and husband, Alex of Fieldale, and Beverly Reed Cooper and husband, Mark of Collinsville; four grandchildren, Nicholas Alley and wife, Lindsey of Chattanooga, TN, Helen Alley Crane and husband, Tony of Roanoke, Jacob Cooper and Daniel Cooper of Collinsville; one sister, Barbara Jean Stewart of Radford; and one brother, Jerry Foley Waddell and wife, Peggy of Radford. Also surviving are 16 nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation or funeral services, per her wishes. In the early spring of 2019, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild will carry her ashes onto a mountain top in the upper end of the ancestral lands in Catawba, VA that she loved and cherished so dearly as a young girl. Ashes will also be interred alongside her husband at Roselawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Ravenel Oncology Center/Sovah Health-Martinsville, or Fieldale-Collinsville Rescue Squad.

Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory of Martinsville, VA is serving the Reed family. Online condolences may be made at www.norrisfuneral.com.
