CHRISTIANSBURG – A man shot himself in Christiansburg Saturday after being confronted by police answering a call for service for a domestic dispute.
“At approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, Christiansburg Police received a call for a domestic dispute near the 2700 block of Roanoke Street,” the Town of Christiansburg announced. “Upon arrival, officers approached a suspect who brandished a firearm.”
“As officers directed the suspect to put down his weapon, the suspect shot himself,” the statement continued. “There were no shots fired by officers and no officers were injured in the incident. Christiansburg EMS arrived and transported the suspect to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.”
The investigation is ongoing.
