Radford City Police Department was contacted by Radford City Department of Social Services regarding an 8-week-old infant with significant injuries Friday.
The infant victim was seen at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and was examined by the Forensic medical staff.
Following a forensic examination of the infant, and a police investigation, the father Shawn Douglas Smith, 20, of Radford was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding.
He is being held at New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
