Man accused of rape in Radford

RADFORD — A 21-year-old man from North Carolina has been charged with allegedly raping an 18-year-old female in the City of Radford.

The Radford City Police Department has charged Kaden Lionel Palacio, 21, after the victim reported it to police on Feb. 15, 2015. The victim stated the alleged rape had occurred at an apartment located on the 1000 block of Fairfax Street the night of Feb. 14.

Palacio was arrested by the Onslow County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Department on Feb. 20 and extradited back to Virginia on Wednesday. He is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.

According to Radford University spokeswoman Sherry Wallace, Palacio is not currently enrolled nor has ever been registered as a student at RU.

Pedestrian struck on Tyler Avenue

A 21-year-old female driver enrolled at Radford University is facing a failure to yield charge after allegedly striking a pedestrian with her vehicle.

At 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Tyler Avenue and Lawrence Street for a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian, a 20-year-old female, was reported to be inside the crosswalk at the time of impact. She sustained minor injuries, but was taken to the New River Valley Medical Center for precaution.

The driver of the vehicle, Tyler Argento of Mineral, was charged with failure to yield to pedestrian in a crosswalk.
