Mabel Elaine Dove, 75, of Christiansburg was promoted to her heavenly home on Saturday May 3, 2025.
She was born in Christiansburg Sept. 7, 1949, to the late James Earley and Lura Irene Harvey Davis. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Paul Davis, sister Gail Bain and her loving husband of 52 years, Bobby Dove.
She is survived by her sons, Steve (Shannon) and Dennis; daughter Pam; grandchildren, Kenny (Hilary), Travis, Holly (Josh), Keisha (Josh), Jessica, Dakota (Cassidy) and Emillee; great grandsons Lane, Rowan, Corbin and Weston, with number five due soon; great granddaughters Gabbi and Saylor; sisters Hilda (Bill) and Jo (Clayton); brothers Dale (Nancy) and Sherman (Debbie), as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Elaine grew up in Blacksburg. She met the love of her life very young, and they eloped to Mt. Airy, N.C. before returning to start their lives and home together in the New River Valley. Elaine was a hard-worker and spent over 40 years working at Federal-Mogul before her retirement in 2014. She lived life to the fullest and loved spending time with her family, going to Pigeon Forge, the beach, attending NASCAR races, shopping, camping or simply being together. She cooked us the best meals and made every day, but especially holidays extra special.
Elaine knew that it was better to give than receive and her generosity knew no bounds. Her beautiful smile and contagious laughter made an impact everywhere she went. She was known for her strong will, unwavering determination and love for life. She was a wonderful person to all who knew her, but she was an extra special Momma and Mawmaw. She loved her family well and we were so blessed to be loved by her and to get to love her in return. She led by example in everything she did and taught us so much about life and how to live it. The only thing she forgot to teach us was how to live without her. We will miss her dearly but know that her memory lives on through each one of us that she left an impact on during her time on earth.
Her favorite passage of scripture was the 23rd Psalm: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thy rod and thy staff they comfort me, Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: though anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many doctors and nurses who have cared for her throughout the past few years. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Pratt officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
