Several hundred gymnasts gathered at the Christiansburg Recreation Center this past weekend for the annual Rock Star Invitational.
One of those was Jenna Kidd, a rising star in the gymnastics world.
The 17 year-old Blacksburg High School junior won the Level 10 bars event, also taking third in vault, fifth in beam and floor, and third in all-around.
In 2024, Kidd qualified for the USAG Level 5 Eastern National Regional Championships where she had a strong performance, claiming the even title in uneven bars, third in the floor exercise and fifth in All-Around. She is also a Level 9 silver medalist on the uneven bars, floor exercise and all-around.
Kidd has also competed in the USAG Development Program.
The USAG program is comprised of eight regions throughout the nation, representing all 50 states. Kidd trains at the Virginia Techniques Facility in Christiansburg and the host of this past weekend’s regional competition.
Kidd started gymnastics at the age of 10 and practices as much as 22 hours a week. She says the sport has taught her self-discipline and to stay motivated to compete.
Virginia Techniques has had five other gymnasts qualify to the Eastern Nationals over the last eight years. Almost all of those have gone on to compete at the next level.
Also, Kidd hopes to continue her gymnastics career in college, following in the footsteps of Rayna Worley, who was an All-American in college at the University of Kentucky.
So far, Kidd had visited one possible landing spot and has talked with several other colleges. As of this weekend, she still had not decided where that will be.
