Dear Editor,
For the last couple of months, a group (NRV Resistance) has been meeting in downtown Christiansburg every Thursday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Usually the rally attracts anywhere from 100 to 500 people. I think it is great that such a large number are coming each week. Most of them are retired and could be sitting at home drinking coffee and watching “I Love Lucy,” reruns, but they have decided to make a statement that they are not happy with what is going on within the federal government.
Each individual is commenting on what is going on in this country today and feels good about what they are doing at the rally. It is called freedom of expression; each individual has a topic they are concerned with that they feel needs to be corrected.
On May 10, 2025, I spoke to some and examined the signs they were carrying and showing to cars as they passed by. Here is an example of what their signs said: “Republicans stand up to Trump” “Impeach Trump” “Hands off our Students” “Social Security is our money” “SOS” “The gov. does not have the right to kidnap people” “Tariffs are Taxes” “Protect the Rule of Law”
NRV Resistance rallies will also be held on Thursdays, May 15, 22 and 29.
