The aisles of the Radford Walmart were filled with smiles and giggles recently as dozens of children were taken shopping for Christmas gifts by local members of the law enforcement community.
The New River Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 21 held their Annual Cops and Kids shop with a cop event Dec. 13 at Walmart. Police officers from the New River Valley took 28 kids shopping at Wal Mart in Fairlawn.
“Officers from Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski Police Department, Radford Sheriff’s Office, Radford Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Virginia Conservation Police and Virginia ABC all shopped with the kids,” said Lee Wenzel, secretary of the FOP lodge. “After the shopping trip, the group was treated to a pizza party with Santa.”
The event was made possible with the help of Pulaski County Hearts Behind the Badge, Radford DSS, Radford Community Transit, Riverlawn Elementary school, Wal Mart and many local donations.
